Dr. Henri' Thompson
Dr. Henri' Thompson is a teacher, small business owner, non-profit executive, and new kind of leader for Virginia that is committed to a basic principle of hope, opportunity, and resilience for all: keep going no matter what – compassionate words from Virginia State alum Reginald F. Lewis.
An advocate for progressive values that create pathways for everyone to succeed, Dr. Thompson is fighting politics that seek to undermine Virginians’ rights including reproductive rights, access to abortion, and affordable birth control. His work is expanding and protecting the progress made on climate change, civil rights, gun safety, health care, LGBTQ+ equality, public education, and other issues.
In 2021 and 2022, Dr. Thompson organized and led the campaign that secured more than $9 million in bonuses for public school teachers and staff in Richmond.
Inspired by opportunities to serve others, Dr. Thompson previously worked in leadership positions at Johns Hopkins University & Medicine, Maryland State Retirement and Pension System, the U.S. House of Representatives Office of the Majority Whip, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in New York.
On Wall Street, he helped maintain the stability of the nation's banking system. On Main Street, he advocated for values that increased wages and provided economic opportunities for all. On Capitol Hill, he worked closely with local and state officials. In the classroom, student's test scores increased, academic achievement gaps narrowed, and more students are pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Dr. Thompson earned a master's degree from Johns Hopkins University and a doctorate from Virginia State University. He is a member of several civic, professional, and non-profit organizations, and is the recipient of numerous awards and honors.
