FAIRFAX, VA – With the recent news of the disturbing death of Irvo Otieno, a twenty-eight-year-old African American male who grew up in suburban Richmond, VA, the Dr. Henri’ Thompson for Virginia House of Delegates District 15 Democratic campaign released the following statement:

 

“During a documented mental health crisis, Irvo Otieno deserved care, compassion, and safety from those who were in charge of protecting him. Irvo is another name that we should not have to say his name because he should be alive today and receiving the mental health care he deserved. Our systems must work for everyone -- and improve -- so that all Virginians remain safe and receive fairness, justice, and access to health care when they need it most. Sincerest condolences to the entire Otieno family and the mother of Irvo, Ms. Caroline Ouko.”
