Greenville, SC — Henri’ Thompson, LLC. managing partner Henri’ Thompson was recently selected by the Richard W. Riley Institute for Government, Politics, and Public Leadership as a member of the Diversity Leadership Academy. He will add much to the group discussions and community endeavors as he is an extraordinarily bright young man, a fact which I have witnessed both in corporate and community service environments. I know that Henri’ sees Upstate, South Carolina in a prime position to do many things, ranging from attracting international companies to closing the racial academic achievement gaps that exist between historically underserved students and their more affluent peers. Henri’s participation with the Richard W. Riley Institute will assure his role in advancing educational and economic equality and diversity in Greenville” says the Honorable Merl Code, former Associate Municipal Court Judge and South Carolina Blue Cross Board of Directors member.

The Henri’ Thompson Foundation works to promote greater equity for historically underserved young people in four areas: education, public health, technology access, and community support. The South Carolina based foundation works with local, national, and international partners to close the academic achievement gap, promote the use of technology as a solution to the digital divide, and ensure adequacy in health care. By focusing on efforts towards these aspects of a young person's life, the foundation is giving young people a solid foundation on which to build a career and life that can improve their community and world.

NAACP Requests States Submit Five-Year Plans To Reduce Racial Disparities In Education

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People National Education Department recently encouraged state leaders to submit their Educational Equity Partnership Plans to reduce educational disparities by at least 50% over the next five years. Dr. John Jackson, NAACP National Director of Education, said, “The NAACP Call for Action initiative is an effort to partner with states to reduce the racial disparities in education and assist states in meeting the benchmark in the federal No Child Left Behind Act. The federal government has to play more of an active role assisting states in resources and policy to address these disparities. However, until the federal government decides to do what is right, the NAACP has a moral obligation to fight to ensure that all students have access to a high quality education.”
...
To assist the states in reaching their goals, the NAACP formed the Brown v. Board Equity Commission comprised of representatives from over 50 national non-profit organizations and 12 state departments of education. The Brown Commission agreed to use the Call for Action initiative as the advocacy tool to work collectively to eliminate disparities in three areas: resource equity, testing, and teacher quality.

JHU
I've completed my graduate studies at Johns Hopkins University and am able to write more broadly on topics I find interesting. Hopkins was a great experience and I was able to work on many exciting projects including those from the Johns Hopkins University Medical School and the Whiting School of Engineering. My research interests continue to expand around topics including resegregation in America's communities and schools, reducing the high school dropout rate, increasing access to early childhood programs and other variables that contribute to providing access to an equal and high quality education for all students. Additionally, I am encouraged from working with numerous community organizations and policymakers, to teach about the impact of educational technologies for enhancing the learning experiences for all students, and will continue publishing much of my related research on this web site.

Over the next several months, I will also publish some of my comments on topics including understanding students through empirical research, urban school reform, the role of policy in college access, and higher education and the law.
